Our Story
Founded on the belief that small, committed actions can lead to big environmental change, MNC began with a grassroots effort to restore degraded mangrove sites. Over time, our work has grown into large-scale restoration projects, cutting-edge research, and community-led conservation programs.
Who We Are
Mangrove Nature Conservancy (MNC) is a dedicated environmental organization committed to the protection, restoration, and sustainable management of mangrove ecosystems. We bring together passionate conservationists, scientists, community members, and global partners to safeguard one of the planet’s most vital natural resources, our mangroves.

Our Mission
To restore and protect mangrove forests and other coastal ecosystems in Kenya by engaging communities, empowering youth, and promoting conservation through education, research, and restoration programs. Our aim is to enhance climate resilience, reduce coastal erosion, conserve biodiversity, and create sustainable livelihoods.
Our Vision
A thriving Kenyan coastline where healthy marine and coastal ecosystems sustain biodiversity, protect communities, and inspire future generations to be guardians of our natural heritage.
Why Mangroves Matter
Mangroves are more than just trees by the sea. They are life-support systems. They:
- Protect shorelines from erosion and storms.
- Store up to four times more carbon than tropical rainforests.
- Serve as nurseries for fish and other marine life.
- Support livelihoods for millions of coastal residents.
Our Approach
We believe in science-driven, community-powered conservation. Our strategy is based on:
Restoration: Planting and nurturing mangroves in degraded areas.
Protection: We advocate for policies and laws that safeguard mangrove forests.
Education: Raising awareness on the importance of mangroves for climate resilience.
Youth Leadership: We believe young people are key to driving sustainable change.
Community-Driven: Every project involves local volunteers, leaders, and students.
Science-Backed Action: We combine traditional knowledge with modern restoration methods and monitoring tools.
Scalable Impact: Our approach is designed to grow one coastline, one community, and one tree at a time.
Our Impact
| Impact Area | Highlight Figure | Description |
| Mangroves Restored | 2,500+ Saplings Planted | We have begun restoring coastal areas by planting over two thousand mangrove saplings, laying the foundation for long-term ecosystem recovery. |
| Coastal Communities Engaged | 120+ Residents Involved | Our early projects involve community members through training, awareness campaigns, and hands-on participation in restoration activities. |
| Carbon Sequestration Started | 3+ Tons CO₂ Offset | Even in our early stages, our mangrove planting initiatives have started contributing to carbon capture, helping combat climate change. |
| Wildlife Habitats Supported | 10+ Species Benefiting | From shorebirds to crabs, our efforts are already helping protect and restore habitats for local coastal wildlife. |
